Fat Family flips raft

July 25th, 2008

Ok, another one of those amazingly stupid news post that I just had to share with you curious readers…

“Family’s weight eyed in ride spill at Riviera Beach’s Rapids Water Park”

A family of 4 (Dad & 3 kids!!!) who weighed about 850lbs to 900lbs flipped a raft at a water park. The ride says maximum weight for each raft is 700lbs. They got on and flipped the ride and went to the hospital. Now they are thinking about suing the park!

We have all seen those signs before “must be this big to ride this ride”. Now if you let your son who is 3ft tall ride on a scary roller coaster that was designed for people 5ft or taller. Who’s fault is it? Well yeah of course the ride attendants must stop him before riding.

Now put yourself in their shoes. A happy family of 4 who to you must weigh 5,000lbs comes to the front of the line. How embarrassed and insulted are they going to be when you ask them for their weight?  How about you? What if they make a huge scene because they are denied entry? What if you asked them and they flat out lied? What if you want to split them up into groups of 4? You maybe thinking that just two alone maybe over the 700lb limit.

So what do you do? You can’t just weigh them in front of everyone.
Well either way the family is going to try and sue the park even though their were signs posted stating the weight restrictions.

Greener Computers?

July 22nd, 2008

I was just thinking about a greener computer. I’m an apple fan so I went to the apple website to see how green their commitments are. I was impressed to find out that as far back as 1990 they have been making a change to become a greener apple. You can read all about it here: Apple Environment

They also recycle your old computer regardless of manufacturer.

Looking around the office, I notice the only machines left are apple computers. I purchased my first mac back in 2001. A 466 G4 computer. So I was thinking, I should hook it up to the network (plug ethernet cable and turn it on) and see if it still worked or if I was just keeping it for nostalgic reasons. Low and behold, it still worked. It had an older version of OS X but my other computers could connect to it with no problems. What really surprised me was the fact that I could share the screen of my older computer using my newer computers running OS X Leopard! AHHH my old desktop… WHAT A MESS!

I didn’t even need to plug in a keyboard, a monitor and a mouse… All remotely controlled.

Well back on topic… Greener computers.
Wouldn’t a greener computer be one that would never need recycling? One that 6 years later works without problems. This computer can now be used for simple things like checking emails, going online and viewing websites or add another hard drive to it, and make it into a mini web server. Maybe Apple timemachine?

I’m a professional who relies on his computer everyday. I’m currently running the latest and greatest web and graphic software with no hitches on a 3 year old computer. Never have I owned Virus or Spyware protection or needed to. You don’t get viruses running OS X. Yes you do pay a little bit more for apple products then you normally would. With the attention to details and design they make a much superior product that will last longer then most in the market. So if in 7 years I have only purchased 2 computers that I really needed, before Apple I was purchasing a new computer every year and a half. That’s about 5 computers in the time span of 2 apples.

Now imagine, a computer like this being used in offices around the world. What a huge impact to the environment then? With low cost apple computers which can handle the day to day business routines such as the mac mini. Out last any PCs running today. Give the IT dept less of a headache due to how stable these machines are and how easy it is to troubleshoot.

I have an old friend who is a Die hard PC user. He always jokes around with me and tells me he owns an apple. He uses it as an anchor for his boat.

My reply to him: Apple, it just works…

Ahh yes Monday Rants

July 7th, 2008

Howdy, yes it is time for another senseless rant about life. We’ll start with some news:

Cleveland schools need $1 million sponsor for uniforms
Ahh yes… $1 million dollars for uniforms. What about school supplies? Up to date books?

Person Takes Ordnance To Police Station
Ahh yes, if you find a bomb (Anywhere) call the cops. Don’t move it anywhere. uhh duh?!

hehe
Women finally can take charge as a Bishop (or soon)… In other news,  Church of England plans male ’superbishops’ for rebel clergy who refuse to be led by women.

Thief turned HERO!!
This man was doing the wrong thing, saw a van and decided he wanted it. Once he broke in he saw a bunch of suspect things like gas cans and styrofoam cups containing white substance and wires. He moved the van and called the cops.

Cart it up!
So, hopefully I will be starting a new job this/next week. I had plans on buying on a small Honda Ruckus scooter or possibly a yamaha Zuma Scooter. But these guys take the cake, STREET LEGAL GOLF CART. Now that is hip.

Asshats in the news

June 21st, 2008

So for today’s news I have some doozies for all of you.

First up we have a teacher who burned a cross onto a students arm. uhh What?!

Ok so this guy is a ’science’ teacher but his faith is more important, so important he has to force it a upon everyone else’s kids. Imagine if his kids went to a school where the teacher was all about nazism? AND he was jewish? I bet he would be complaining to the board because some asshat teacher thinks is more important to corrupt our youth instead of teaching them to keep an open mind.
Link to the asshat’s story
Next up!
Man tries to pay with pennies, police are called!!!!

What a way to waste our tax dollars… Why was the police called? The man got gas, 10 dollars worth and tried to pay with pennies. The clerk didn’t accept the pennies and the Driver was upset about this whole thing so the clerk called the cops and he left.
Now the issue here is… PENNIES ARE STILL CURRENCY!!! If your shop is not accepting money then close down. It’s not his fault he tried to pay you with what is still considered CURRENCY. Sucks to count out 10 dollars worth of pennies but if it’s this big an issue the United States should consider getting rid of the copper coins.

Asshat numbero Dos

Last but not least… When in Brooklyn watch out for the crossing deer. VERY dangerous… Wait there are deer in Brooklyn NY?!@! Well at least they put up a sign in brooklyn to help protect those crossing deer. Another sign of mismanagement of government funds…

Firefox 3 and it’s issues…

June 18th, 2008

Hello I am a web developer and a graphic designer. I work on browsers all day long. So I know a bit about them when it comes to developing for them and using them.

I just downloaded firefox 3 and was disappointed. I am on a mac and my friend tells me these issues don’t happen on a PC. I found that FF3 when it came to javascript was horrifically slow. That is my major big gripe with it… thats it really.

Some people are upset that the home button is gone. But really? In a world where JS is getting more an more popular you would think that this browser would take care of this problem. Safari is still the best browser out there that I use (not saying it doesn’t have it’s own problems) Yeah there seems to be some memory loss with safari. BUT FF3 virtual and real memory is up through the roof. Compared to Safari which has been open since yesterday. I do like the new interface (partly because it looks more like safari then it ever did)

But now having to wait for themes/extensions/addons to be updated is kind of a pain. Vista anyone?
So these maybe issues just with the mac, but if thats the case then use safari! problem solved.

And yes after doing some research safari is the fastest browser when it comes to most things on the web. (yes even opera)

Another reason to buy Mac?

June 16th, 2008

I was on the net again searching through news (duh). When I came across this article about a substitute teacher (here in CT!) who was sentenced up to 40 years for showing pornography to her class.

Well, the truth of the matter is, she had a computer screen up which was visible to the students when pop-ups (aka bad programs like spyware, malware etc) started to pop up with a bunch of porno. Low an behold she got up to 40 years.

And to think, all of that could of been avoided if only they had a mac in the school. Sad.
And justice prevailed!! ??

Wow, at least buy macs for our children’s sake….

P.S. For those of you that don’t know it would be impossible for ‘pop ups’ to just appear on a mac screen since they are more secure and need less looking after. Hence no virus protection or spyware protection.

That showed them!

June 2nd, 2008

I saw some disturbing show on the discovery channel about how some young people in muslim countries didn’t condemn suicide bombings because they said they couldn’t afford proper weapons. Today I opened the news on google and read about this new bombing of a Danish Embassy in Pakistan. For those of you who didn’t know the great danes published a cartoon depicting the prophet muhammad. Islam generally forbids any depiction of the prophet — even favorable ones — fearing that it may lead to idolatry.

Well a lot has happened since it’s first publishing and re-publishing of the cartoon. Now the bombing. I would like to point out that the bomb killed about 4 people in Pakistan. NONE of the embassy workers were hurt. THAT’S SHOWING THEM!!! Way to get your point across by killing your own innocent people. I’m sure the prophet muhammad would approve of such actions.

This whole thing reminds me of some elementary kids going at it. One kid calls the other kids mom a name. They then start to fight. (except unlike school, everyone else is going to get hurt) Instead of growing up, and realizing that no matter what that kid says about his mom IT WON’T CHANGE A THING. So what, that he called your mom a whore. Is she? If she is then he is just stating a fact if she isn’t then him calling her names won’t make her one.

I am all about freedom of religion and speech. You can believe what you want & when you want it. As long as you don’t hurt others in the process. IF I did say something bad about the prophet Muhammad I shouldn’t be hunted down. Don’t force your views on me.

You don’t like the cartoon? Then don’t view it, or voice what you have to say. But to blow up a building and kill your own innocent people?I’m no military strategist but something tells me that is not the correct way of waging a war.

Kill people over a cartoon? Is this what (insert your God here) wanted?

All of our ancestors just rolled over in their graves…

5 reasons why Vista is better then OSX?!

April 21st, 2008

Yeah so I was messing about on the internet looking at news and stuff like I usually do, when I came to this post/news article from some guy named ‘Preston Gralla’. Some sort of PC computerworld guy who is also an author of many pc books yadda yadda…

Well, his post has to do with the 5 reasons why Vista is better then OSX. No, he is not a comedian but this is some funny stuff.

Have a read at his 5 reasons:

Reason #1: Vista runs more software
Reason #2: Vista is safer
Reason #3: It’s the money, stupid
Reason #4: The Mac is closed; Vista is open
Reason #5: Two words — Steve Jobs

Let’s just break these down real quick.

#1 vista runs more software. I agree with this. There are about a million different programs to do one thing on a PC. Yes gaming is not the big thing on a mac. If your a gamer then buy a pc. Keep in mind though when it comes to using the computer, you think apple and software makers haven’t filled in the void? Can it open up office files? It sure can since there is a mac version of office, not to mention the really really nice apple version of office called iwork. It runs so much software that viruses and spyware are also on that list.

#2 Vista is safer. It’s so safe you need to buy and download anti-virus software and anti-spyware software. It’s so safe that when a new super virus is released into the wild it hits all the news stations right? uhh right… I have owned and operated a mac since day 1 of os x (2001). Never once have I ever installed any virus/spyware protection. I don’t even know if they have software for mac like that. (Brings us back to ‘Reason #1′)

#3 it’s the money stupid. Yes PC’s are cheaper… Or are they? If your not a computer savvy person PC’s can end up costing you a lot more in the long run. Think of it like this. You buy your pc which is cheaper then the mac. Then you buy anti-virus protection then you buy some anti-spyware protection. Lets hope your pc doesn’t break down cause then its repair costs. Ever hear of geeksquad? (in my experience, things usually break down if they are cheap). Then of course, there is time. TIME IS MONEY! If your PC goes down, it’s off to the shop to get repaired in the meantime, did you backup all your work? If not thats work you have to redo. What about your valuable information? Photos you can never get again? I mean even if its a simple reboot of the computer every day a few times a day adds up on time. You get more done with a computer that (and i hate to say it cause its so cliche) WORKS!

#4 Mac is closed Vista is open. He says anyone who builds a PC can sell it or use it themselves as long as they buy the operating system. While if you tried doing this with a mac you’d be in a heap of trouble with Apple. Lets take a look at this for a moment. Mercedez Benz the famous car company. It’s famous for its luxury, style and safety. What if people could build a new car, just start building it from pieces in their garage and sold it as a Benz? Could Benz then guarantee luxury, style and safety? Is it still a benz? I mean even if you used benz parts, benz can’t guarantee that they were all put in correctly. What if you used no Benz parts and got a benz car computer. Yeah this all ‘may’ work but it doesn’t take full advantage of what those parts were made for. I mean when you buy a CLK your getting a CLK not a CLK body with a vespa engine. Macs do cost more money then the PCs, the reason being is that your getting top of the line equipment in each mac.

#5 Two words, Steve Jobs…  Yeah so he sends his lawyers out to get people that release classified company information. Not like any other company in the world wouldn’t do this. Especially when Apple’s whole marketing thing is SURPRISE look at how we changed the market again! As soon as iPhone was released how many cell phones all of a sudden had touch screens? How would apple re-invent the wheel if everyone split it’s confidential information to the world? Think of it… Remember when those color ‘imacs’ came out? Everything around us was called a iTV or iPhone or iThis or iThat and everything was color coded in cool nifty colors all thanks to apple and their industry secrets. What does Bill Gates do? He just buys other companies that already had the idea it’s not innovative to just buy out your competition. As I write this they are trying to do a hostile takeover of yahoo.com. If you also didn’t know Steve Jobs is the owner of Pixar. The makers of such great movies like : Toy Story, A Bug’s Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., Finding Nemo, cars etc…

In conclusion, I believe this guy has been paid off by M$. Since they can’t buy good marketing they might as well buy off the people who are at the controls to try an brainwash us, the public. If you have the money, buy a mac if you don’t have the money yet, save until you have the money. Don’t waste a couple of hundred dollars cause in the end it will cost you more due to hardware issues, time spent due to crashes or even worse loss of very important files, pictures, music and movies. The cheapest mac you can buy (and do mostly everything with including run windows on it) for about $500.00 usd. I strongly recommend buying the 3 year apple care insurance. It’s $150 extra for that but if your mac does go down, you can then take it to the store where in some cases people got their computers back that same day. I have sent my laptop once in for a fixing, the next day I had it back.
You can find all the reasons as to why he thought this way on this site

Hello world!

April 16th, 2008

Welcome to my new blog. We’re going to start our entry with a post about wikipedia.

I was talking to one of my cousins the other day. She is still in high school and had to do a report on something. She began to ask me a whole bunch of questions on a topic I knew nothing about. I told her “to get the answers to your question, check out wikipedia.” She told me her teacher said not to use wikipedia since wikipedia’s information is not correct.

Yeah granted in the past there have been people who have added bogus information about certain topics. Although, wikipedia falls under that same umbrella as a Fast food place who now places warning labels on their ‘hot’ coffee. It happened once, but you better believe they are trying to make sure it never happens again.

Instead of restricting the students from using the internet, which by the way it’s original purposes was to pass information along from one place to another (not some porn/chat box), why not teach them how to use the internet correctly. For this example, wikipedia. The teacher could of taught his/her students that wikipedia is the online encyclopedia pulling from multiple online sources. Kind of like how you goto a library and find multiple books. They may or may not be accurate but, this was the accepted methods in school in my heyday before the internet was the big thing. I for one would of loved the power of the internet. I know for sure I would of had decent grades in school if I had it.

This is just my 2 cents, kind of like a rant… and stuff.
